The 761st Tank Battalion fought continuously for 183 days across six European countries after entering combat in France on November 7, 1944. They fought in the Battle of the Bulge, helped liberate several Nazi concentration camps, and linked up with Soviet forces at the end of the war. Despite their extraordinary service, the 761st was not awarded the Presidential Unit Citation until 1978, more than three decades after the war ended. In 1997, Staff Sergeant Ruben Rivers was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism in battle.
